The new Jaguar XK sports car brought racing car performance to the road, yet it did so with a level of comfort and sophistication unknown in such a vehicle. The car was intended for limited production only to try out Jaguar’s new twin overhead camshaft engine, designated during design and development by the initials ‘XK’. As the last manifestation of the concept, the XK150 was the most sophisticated. It was another step in the softening process that had started with the 140, and would continue after the 150. The Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe was introduced, like the DropHead Coupe, in May 1957. The XK150 was very different from its predecessors, but the car remained very much in the jaguar theme. The most obvious change was the considerable straightening of the wing line. The appearance was modernized significantly by the adoption of a one-piece windscreen. The front had a wider and more delicate grille than the XK140 and the front bumper was given a little more style with a depression under the grille.
In its original 3.4 litre form in the xk 120, the engine gave 160bhp. Initially two versions of the XK engine were available, and later several more. Coinciding with the introduction of the OTS model, an ’S’ version was added to the entire range. The range was further extended by the introduction of a 3.8-litre version of the XK engine supplied with the B-type head or the ’straight port head’, producing a claimed 220bhp.
The appeal of XK’s today is probably based on such intangibles as nostalgia and style, but they can be very practical cars. The performance, even by today’s standards, is highly respectable.
This charming Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe was manufactured on 17 December 1959 and dispatched on 6 January 1960 through Jaguar dealer Lagerwij’s in The Hague to its first owner in Aerdenhout, the Netherlands. According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, this car was originally finished in the wonderful colour Pastel Blue combined with a biscuit interior. The powerful 3.8 Litre 6-cylinder engine is matching number and the car is originally and still fitted with a manual gearbox with overdrive. Also a very comfortable manual sunroof was fitted we expect here in Holland.
In the period 1999-2002 this Jaguar was body-off restored by specialists in the Netherlands. The engine was carefully overhauled and all the work is well documented with many pictures and invoices. It is very pleasant to drive with the powerful 3.8 Litre 6-cylinder engine combined with easy power-steering. Since the restoration the car has been looked after very well and she has driven only 21.500kms. The panel fit is correct and both the exterior and interior are still in extremely nice condition. It is clearly visible that a lot of time and money has been spend on this car. The previous owner is also well known to us and a collector of really only exceptional cars.
This Jaguar remained all its life in the Netherlands and was sold a few years ago to its current Dutch owner.
In summary this is an extremely nice Jaguar XK150 FHC, presented as ordered new in one of the nicest 50’s colors Pastel Blue. Well documented body-off restoration and only 21.500kms since. Comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Cerfiticate, many pictures of the restoration and the original (so not a copy) Dutch registration papers from 1960.
This example ticks all the right boxes and will simply not disappoint upon viewing.
Price is 115.000,-.
