1971, 1302S "Volkswagen-Porsche Salzburg Kafer", prepared for historic rallies according to FIA G2 Touring Competition rules: this car was prepared with care and attention by an enthusiast from Greece who took part to the Acropolis Rally in 2009: the selected some specialists from England and Sweden to build this racing Beetle with the best specifications. After his ownership the car was purchased in 2015 from a collector from France who never used the car, then arrived in Italy in 2017 to the current owner.
The body was restored and painted, the wings were welded in the crucial points. A full roll cage FIA approved was constructed by a specialist and the strut bar was placed between the upfront ends of the front shock absorbers and also an antirollbar (from USA) was placed on the front. Racing springs (Apex) and shock absorbers (Koni) were fitted all around. Racing pads on the front disc brakes were fitted as well as slightly larger drums (from VW van) on the rear brakes with racing circuits and brake fluid.
Two special oil coolers, one in front of the car and one under the rear seat were placed to keep the temperature right. The engine was fully rebuilt, from the case to the last screw. It has racing components, as forged pistons, cylinder heads, etc from Germany and USA. The optimizing of the cylinder head air flow was made in Sweden by a “guru" of air cooled VW engines, Johanes Person (JP Motosport) who even provided a very special camshaft designed and modified for this purpose. A brand new limited slip differential from England (Quaife) was also installed and a custom racing exhaust was built in England after collaboration between the Greek engineers, the Swedish specialist and the English racing exhaust makers, “Turbo Thomas handcrafted exhausts", specialist for VWs.
Two brand new carbs Weber 44 with K&N filters with all the other necessary for engine and mechanical parts were selected and fitted with only target to have the best racing performances of this Beetle: the result is an output of 105hp with a torque of 143 Nm.
Perspex side windows and rearwindow together with kevlar covers inside the doors were fitted for lightening purposes. Electrical circuits and equipment as the twin fuel pumps were fitted according to racing requirements. A set of instruments (tacho ,speedo, oil pressure, oil temp, engine temp, voltage) were placed into a special alu frame. A tripmaster (Branz), a reading light and an electric heater were also mounted for rally purposes. Hand-operated extinguisher and extinguisher system, seats and harnesses valid until 2022.
The car comes with a second set of 8 spoke EMPI aluminium wheels tegether with a third set of steel wheels, for studded or rain tires.
Italian title and license plates, FIVA and ACI Sport regularity passports; the FIA HTP recently expired, it just needs to be renovated.
Very reliable car, ideal for regularity sport races, marathons or rallies: it can be seen in Padova by appointment. Further details on www.gulfblue.it
