A 1972 Alfa Romeo finished in Rosso Alfa. Naturally, there are all sorts of things we could say about it. But when it comes to the color? Sometimes red simply seems destined for a particular model. The lines of this coupé have become so familiar that we almost forget just how modern the design must have looked when it was introduced. Slim pillars, plenty of glass, and a distinctly sporting presence. This is the kind of Alfa Romeo you fall in love with.

The basic design first appeared in 1963 as the successor to the Giulietta Sprint. Alfa Romeo wanted to create a faster and technically more sophisticated coupé without losing any of its playful character. It succeeded remarkably well. The combination of a relatively lightweight body, rear-wheel drive, a five-speed transmission, and the famous Twin Cam four-cylinder engine made the Alfa a favorite with enthusiastic road drivers and racers alike. Then, in 1971, the 2000 GTV arrived.

The 2.0-liter Twin Cam produced approximately 130 horsepower and was, at the time, the most powerful version of Alfa Romeo’s four-cylinder engine in this series. On paper, 130 horsepower may not sound earth-shattering today, but that is a little like judging a good espresso by the size of the cup. What matters is what is inside.

The engine loves to rev, the five-speed manual transmission asks you to get involved, and the steering does exactly what the steering in a classic Alfa should do: remind you why you took the long way around in the first place.

This example was fully restored and rebuilt using original NOS parts. And here, the details are right. The Rosso Alfa paintwork presents beautifully, the black interior is in exceptionally well-cared-for condition, and the chrome, wheels, and paintwork come together to create a thoroughly convincing whole. More recently, the car was also attended to by a German specialist.

The result is a 2000 GTV that not only looks magnificent, but also delivers exactly the right atmosphere the moment you climb aboard. The characteristic steering wheel, classic instruments, black interior, and that long hood stretching out ahead of you. The engine runs beautifully, the manual transmission is easy to operate, and once underway, the car offers a comfortable driving experience with a distinctly sporting character.

A beautifully restored 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV, finished in what may well be the finest color for this model, carefully rebuilt with original parts and full of the small details that make a car like this truly special.

Rosso Alfa. Twin Cam. Bertone. Some combinations simply do not need improving. Interested? Contact Gallery Aaldering today and discover this Alfa Romeo Bertone for yourself. We export our vehicles worldwide; please ask us about the possibilities.
