Description
The first, the mother of a successful family. With its merits (many) and defects (some youthful vices), the 1965 911 embodies the true DNA that Porsche has been carrying forward for 60 years on its flagship model. It is a true Gran Touring, a sports car suitable for everyday use, with which you could go racing on the weekend. From the theater to the track as claimed the advertisement. Compared to the previous year, the 1966 models featured some significant improvements, including Weber carburetors, replacing the initially complex Solex ones. Other modifications included the suspension, now improved with the famous "reinforcements" on the front bumper (in essence, lead weights to reduce understeer) and a gear lever no longer derived from the 356.
This example rolled off the assembly line on August 5, 1966, one of the very last produced for the Swiss market, and delivered two weeks later to its first owner in Zurich. The car mirrored its current configuration: Polo red with black interior and a central seats with houndstooth fabric. The only optional extra was the Webasto auxiliary heating.
After approximately 25 years in the Swiss Republic, the car was purchased in Italy from a dealer in Ravenna, then moved to Bologna, where it acquired its current registration. It has had two owners, both known to one another: the first for 6 years and the second for over 25 years.
Over time, the car underwent a restoration in the 1990s, followed by regular maintenance, as the last owner drove it across Europe without any problems. This demonstrates that the car is both a pleasure for daily driving and reliable for long distances.
The 6 cylinders engine deliver 130 horsepower which are more than enough to give unexpected satisfaction both in sports driving and in motorway transfers: with its typical Solex carburetors it is brilliant, thanks to a complete reconstruction following all the improvements made over the years. Even the 901 gearbox, typically with “dog-leg” scheme, was completely overhauled. The suspensions set-up, mounted on 4.5-inch rims - with chrome finish - and CN36 Pirelli tyres, make this 911 among the most fun and lively to drive on twisty roads: it is a 911 that you would never want to get off. Who writes, has had one for a long time, used almost as a "daily driver" with pleasant satisfactions!
One of the main peculiarities of the 911 2000 of 1965 is the interior: the green gauges, the wooden steering wheel combined with the dashboard characterize the first two years of production, in combination with the comfortable seats finished in skai and fabric - to travel better even in summer - and the velour carpet to complete a familiar interior for fans of the model, but with dedicated rare and special notes.
Kardex, CRS ASI and registration document available. Car visible by appointment in Bologna.
