HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
Did you know that the design of the 124 Sport Spider has Dutch roots? This has everything to do with the well-known Dutch designer Tom Tjaarda, who was employed by Pininfarina at the time. The design is based on Tjaarda's earlier design for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which was ultimately not produced due to too many European influences. Fiat did show interest in this design, and in this way it formed the basis for the Sport Spider, which was introduced six months after the popular four-door Fiat 124 (in 1967). Over the years, the appearance was slightly changed and the engines were enlarged. This eventually led to the CS1 model, which was equipped with a 1.8-litre engine and was only available in the United States. The model we are offering was produced in 1974 (but is from the 1975 model year) and was later imported from the favourable climate of the US to the Netherlands. Since 2022, the car has been registered with a Belgian number plate. The car comes with a comprehensive instruction manual and workshop manual.
EXTERIOR
The beautiful design is still as attractive and timeless as ever. Characteristic of this type are the bumps on the bonnet. The Pininfarina emblem adorns the side. The beautiful striking yellow colour “Giallo Pagoda” (repainted paintwork) contrasts beautifully with the matt black bonnet and boot and gives the car a sporty look reminiscent of the Abarth version. The absence of the front bumper also contributes to this. The paintwork is in good condition. The car has alloy wheels. The black soft top is free of tears and also in good condition. The lines of the car are beautiful and we have not been able to find any rust on the car.
INTERIOR
The interior has been renewed and is therefore in good condition. The bucket seats and rear seats are upholstered in half leather and half fabric. A nice option is the 2-spoke wooden steering wheel. The wooden dashboard features a comprehensive instrument panel with various gauges such as oil pressure, temperature gauge, voltmeter and a rev counter. The interior also has heating and a radio cassette player.
TECHNICAL
The engine compartment looks dry and houses the 1,756 cc 4-cylinder engine, which is standardly coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The tyres all round still have sufficient tread. The car is equipped with a new CSI electric ignition and new spark plugs and a new battery have recently been fitted. In addition, a service with fresh oil has been carried out. Thanks in particular to its light weight of 960 kg and rear-wheel drive, the Spider is a pleasure to drive. The car drives and shifts well.
GENERAL
The Fiat Sport Spider 124 is a convertible that was produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1966 to 1985. It was one of the most popular sports cars of its time and was praised for its good performance, comfortable handling and attractive appearance. The car was initially powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine that delivered 89 hp. The car was continuously developed and equipped with larger engines, eventually reaching a 2.0-litre engine. Production of the Spider 124 was discontinued in 1985. The car remains a popular classic among Italian sports car enthusiasts.
