Trade-in car.

Converting a 1988 Volkswagen Polo Coupé Fox to fully electric. Why would you do that?

Because you can.

And honestly, with this car, that may be the best explanation of all. The starting point is a tidy Polo Coupé Fox, finished in Tornado Red with a red plaid interior. A wonderfully simple, light, and compact Volkswagen from the 1980s. It was never meant to be complicated, never designed to impress with luxury, but simply built to work. It just works a little differently now.

This Polo was converted to 100 percent electric drive by E-Cap Mobility GmbH. The result is a particularly interesting combination of old-school Volkswagen philosophy and modern electric technology. No gasoline engine anymore, but an electric drivetrain installed in a body that still very clearly belongs to another era. And that contrast is exactly what makes it fun.

The Polo II was introduced in 1981 and remained in production well into the 1990s. In Coupé form, it received a sportier profile than the familiar “breadvan” version, without losing its practical character. The Fox specification was simple, light, and likable. And precisely because of that, it turns out to be surprisingly well suited to an electric conversion. Less weight, straightforward engineering, and a compact body are hardly bad starting points.

This example is also in good condition. The car still wears its original paint, and the interior has been preserved remarkably well. The red plaid upholstery gives the car exactly the right 1980s atmosphere. Fresh, honest, and free of unnecessary decoration.

The car is registered in Germany. And if TÜV or GTÜ has approved this electric Polo, that somehow feels like a particularly reassuring sentence. Its history is also documented with records dating back to the Fox’s “fossil-fuel” period. That completes the story nicely: from compact gasoline-powered Polo to fully electric classic.

A 1988 Volkswagen Polo Coupé Fox, finished in Tornado Red, converted to electric power by E-Cap Mobility GmbH, and registered in Germany. A remarkably fresh, original, and unexpectedly relevant classic.
