Description

Automated translation suggestion. Original auction listing language: German.

The Porsche 914 made its world premiere in 1969 at the International Motor Show (IAA) and was positioned as a smaller mid-engine sports car significantly below the Porsche 911. The 914 was the first mass-produced mid-engine sports car by a German manufacturer – this design was mainly found in racing cars or exclusive small-series sports cars at the time. It offered two spacious trunks at the front and rear with a total volume of 460 liters. The removable plastic Targa roof could be stored in the rear trunk.

The new entry-level Porsche was produced in collaboration with Volkswagen: Initially, two main variants were offered: The 914/6 with a 2.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine (110 HP) from the Porsche 911 T, which was manufactured and marketed by Porsche, and the 914/4 with a 1.7-liter four-cylinder boxer engine (80 HP) from the VW 411 E, which was produced by Karmann. Many components such as axles, transmissions, and brakes came from the VW range. The 914/4 was manufactured by Karmann and sold and serviced in specially trained sales centers. The body consisted of a frame-floor system with a welded body and integrated safety bar. The chassis was a Porsche development with wishbones at the front and trailing arms at the rear.

Since the 914/6 competed price-wise with the Porsche 911 T, it was produced in limited quantities (3,338 units in three years). The more affordable 914/4 was much more successful and accounted for the majority of the total production of 118,978 vehicles between 1969 and 1975. The cooperation between VW and Porsche on the 914 was an innovative approach that allowed both companies to combine their strengths and create a unique vehicle. Despite some controversies and nicknames such as "Volksporsche" or "Mom's shopping car," the 914 is considered an important milestone in the history of both brands today.

This Porsche 914/4, like almost 75% of the total production, was first delivered to America and has only recently found its way back to Europe. The then-owner from California repainted the car in yellow after some time. For several years now, however, the Porsche 914/4 has once again sported its original red-orange color. The car underwent a complete engine overhaul at the end of summer 2022 and is in impeccable technical and optical condition without rust or corrosion marks.

The Porsche 914 still impresses today not only with its typical Porsche reliability but also guarantees pure driving pleasure thanks to its special drive concept and manageable dimensions.

This vehicle is sold including 12 months warranty / CT Warranty.*
