The Datsun 280Z

The Datsun 280Z, introduced in 1975, was the final evolution of Nissan’s first-generation Z-cars. Building on the success of the 240Z and 260Z, the 280Z featured a fuel-injected 2.8-liter inline-six engine, with 170hp, offering improved reliability and performance. With tighter emissions standards looming, the 280Z’s Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection gave it the edge it needed to stay competitive in the U.S. market and finally offered a similar power-to-weight ratio as the original 240Z.

Combining Japanese engineering with sleek, European-inspired styling, the 280Z became a beloved icon of 1970s sports car culture—quick, balanced, and timelessly cool.

In our view, the best of the S30, especially when you’re dealing with an immaculate example like this one.

This Datsun 280Z

Up for sale is a restored (body, paint, mechanics) and impeccably maintained 1976 Datsun 280Z, presented in white with a factory original black vinyl interior.

This Z has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to both preserve its heritage and elevate its drivability. The car was first registered in California in April 1976 and came to Europe in the early 2000s.

The current owner acquired the car in 2006. While it was good and solid, he decided to refurbish it. Bodywork (only minimal needed) and paint was done by the Hungarian Nissan importer, as the owner worked there at the time. Mechanics and electrics were done by a leading European Z specialist. The original 5-mph impact bumpers were substituted with 240Z chrome bumpers, which improves appearance and saves weight. At the same time, a 5-speed gearbox was added to improve drivability.

With its immaculate, factory original interior, this 280Z is nothing short of stunning and has always been expertly maintained. Currently registered as historic vehicle in Hungary, it can easily be registered anywhere in the EU. Should an American buyer fall for the car, we are happy to help with shipping.
