A Revamped Classic: The 1992 Healey Sprite The Healey Sprite, a truly unique creation, has been meticulously redesigned in 1992 based on the original Sprite from 1960 in England. This remarkable transformation was executed with great attention to detail, according to the customer's wishes, and with the endorsement of none other than Donald and Geoffrey Healey, the original designers of the Sprite MK 1 (1959-1961). They acclaimed, “This is how we would build the Sprite today; this car is simply brilliant.”

What makes this vehicle particularly special is that it is the last of only 22 examples of this version built worldwide. While it retains the drive and axles of the original Sprite, utilizing the simple yet reliable BMC technology, almost everything else has been upgraded.

An aircraft engineer developed the car’s highly stable, galvanized tubular frame, and the body is constructed from exceptionally durable fiberglass—meaning no more rust concerns. The engine produces approximately 70 HP and the vehicle weighs just 660 kg. The bonnet suspension is modeled after the Jaguar E-Type, and there’s an extended footwell to accommodate drivers over 1.80 meters tall. Adding to its distinctive features is a registered adhesive license plate similar to that of the Jaguar E-Type.

Inside, the Sprite boasts original Smith fittings, a leather steering wheel, and leather seats, with side windows and a soft top in pristine condition. The vehicle has also been fitted with a new special radiator, and the brakes have been completely overhauled, featuring front disc brakes and a new clutch. The new tires complement the original Ferrari paintwork, contributing to the car’s technically and visually excellent condition.

All car testers have expressed their enthusiasm for this lively little roadster. After 32 years of pure driving pleasure, the current owner is reluctantly parting with it due to age.
