Offered for sale is my exceptionally elegant and rare Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider, featuring coachwork by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan.
With only approximately 3,400 examples produced, the Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Touring is one of the rarer Italian open grand tourers of the early 1960s. Its beautifully proportioned Touring coachwork, classic twin-cam engine and five-speed manual gearbox make it a particularly desirable Alfa Romeo.
Vehicle details:
History and documentation
The vehicle underwent an extensive restoration. The restoration work and the condition of the bodywork, underbody, suspension, interior, soft top, chrome trim and paintwork are documented by numerous photographs and a comprehensive 40-page valuation report.
In 2017, a replacement five-speed gearbox was installed by a specialist in classic Alfa Romeo vehicles. The documented cost, including installation, transport and associated work, amounted to €9,997.42.
The detailed valuation report from 2017 assessed all inspected areas of the vehicle as condition 2+ and stated a market value of €120,000 at that time. This is a historical condition and valuation report produced before the present engine damage occurred.
An official certificate from the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo is also available. It confirms that the car was produced on 7 September 1960, delivered to Frankfurt on 13 September 1961 and originally finished in “Grigio Grafite”.
Engine and present technical condition
The Alfa Romeo is expressly offered for sale with engine damage. The engine has already been removed from the vehicle and is complete. The precise nature of the damage and the extent of the required repairs can be inspected with the engine removed.
The engine carries number AR 002040081 and dates from 1959. It is a period-correct engine of the correct type for an Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Touring. However, it is not the matching-numbers engine originally assigned to this particular chassis.
As the engine is currently removed, the vehicle is not roadworthy and cannot be test-driven. Collection will require a suitable enclosed transporter, trailer or recovery vehicle.
The sale includes:
This is a rare opportunity for an Alfa Romeo enthusiast, collector or specialist workshop to acquire a comprehensively documented and previously restored Touring Spider.
The known technical work principally involves the repair and refitting of the engine, followed by recommissioning of the vehicle.
Personal inspection of both the car and the removed engine is welcomed by prior appointment. Further photographs and documentation are available to genuinely interested buyers.
