The four-seat, coupé version of Fiat’s Ferrari-powered sports car appeared at the 1967 Geneva Show, a few months after the Dino Spider. The cars used a roadgoing version (by engineer Rocchi) of the little Dino Formula 2 V6. The project served two purposes: Ferrari could homologate the punchy 2.0-liter motor as a ‘production’ engine, and Fiat could associate itself Ferrari. The first production Dino engine was a 1987cc, all-alloy,In 1969, both Ferrari and Fiat introduced new 2.4-liter Dino models The V6 now put out 180cv , another important difference respecter the 2.0 liter models the 2.4-liter cars used a coil-sprung independent rear suspension with 2 shock absorbers derived from the Fiat 130. Other modifications went on to improve the car's drivability and safety: larger diameter clutch, new dogleg ZF gearbox with revised gear ratios, wider section 205/70VR -14 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 treys, and up sized brake discs and calipers. accepting only the upper half of the built-up engine from Fiat for final assembly in Maranello. Compared to Pininfarina’s lithesome Spider, Bertone’s version was more sober-styled .The Coupés were slightly more expensive, at 4,100,000 lire, than the 3,930,000-lire Spiders but outsold them by quite a margin. A ‘proper’ 246 Dino at that time was 5,500,000 lire, by the way.
