Description

  • Special bodywork by Lueg
    - Ideal as a stylish, historic advertising vehicle
    - Traceable history

    Description:

Between May 1950 and October 1953, approximately 6,020 Type 170 chassis were produced for the construction of special bodies and supplied by Mercedes-Benz to various coachbuilders. As a symbol of the emerging German economic recovery, the Mercedes-Benz 170 was introduced in 1949 with a range of engine options. In the following years, its chassis served as the basis for a wide variety of special bodies, ranging from two-seater pickup trucks to seven-seater station wagons. Among the most renowned body manufacturers of the period was the Lueg company in Bochum.

The vehicle offered here is an exceptionally rare Mercedes-Benz 170 special body, originally built for the Eisenwerk in Troisdorf and fitted with a fully glazed station wagon body by Lueg. This particularly unusual and sought-after body style is one of the rarest versions of the 170 special bodies. Originally produced as a diesel-powered 170 Da, the car was converted many years ago to the more powerful 45 hp engine from the Mercedes-Benz 170 S (M 136 VI) in order to improve its performance. The vehicle’s ownership history can be traced through the original “Pappdeckelbrief” registration document. It has been in the possession of its current owner since 2009.

This Mercedes-Benz 170 represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a rare example featuring the exceptional Lueg bodywork in its fully glazed configuration, offered at an attractive price. It would also make a highly distinctive and stylish historic advertising vehicle for a company or brand.
