Beautiful Vegantune Evante 140 TC LHD MkI with complete history from new, including original correspondence, photographs, literature and numerous invoices. Delivered new in Germany as a left-hand drive, this first owner kept the car until 2002. The Evante was then imported to the Netherlands, where it remained. Germany was home to the only importer on the continent, and only 12 LHD models were delivered new there. A total of only 104 were built, so it is rare and exclusive.
However, the supply of parts is remarkably good, and most parts are from Ford anyway, such as the reliable Sierra 5 gearbox. Thanks to the straightforward technology and solid build quality, you can enjoy driving without high costs. There are even two Evante clubs, one in Germany and, of course, one in the UK. The Evante 140 TC is nicknamed “The better Lotus” and is a further development (thanks to George Robinson) of the amazing rear-wheel drive Lotus Elan.
This Evante has been repainted in its original colour, ‘Anthracite Metallic’, and the paintwork is of high quality. The body is made of polyester reinforced with Kevlar, making it ultra-light, very rigid and extremely strong. Unfortunately, it is also expensive to produce, and everything is built by hand. Every connoisseur knows that it is very difficult to get a polyester bodywork nice and smooth. The advantage is that rust does not stand a chance. There are some signs of wear on the left side, but that is to be expected after almost 37 years. The original bonnet is still remarkably beautiful and closes tightly. The original cover is also present, as is the tonneau cover. A few clips are missing. The original rims are beautiful and fitted with the correct tyres.
The interior is 100% original and, of course, in beautiful condition. The seats were factory-upholstered in Connolly leather, and the upholstery looks remarkably good. Top-quality leather, with just the right patina after 37 years. The dashboard is intact, and all instruments work as they should. The power windows are a bit slow to operate, but with a bit of care, they work perfectly. Apparently, every Evante has them, but you drive with the top down 99% of the time.
The Evante is a rare enthusiast's car and therefore very well maintained. The famous Twin Cam 4-cylinder engine was recently completely overhauled, including new Carrillo pistons. The cylinder head and the dual Dell'Orto carburetors were also professionally overhauled. Invoices are available, and the cost was €11,144. Furthermore, new ignition, spark plug wires, wheel bearings, clutch kit, ball joints, window guides and switches, windshield, and a custom-made stainless steel exhaust were installed. The MOT is valid until May 2026.
