The increase of displacement was the main innovation of the Porsche 911 for 1970. After six years of success for the 2-liter engine, enhanced in 1969 by the Bosch mechanical injection pump, the decision was made to increase the displacement to 2200 cc (in addition to the valve size), also to allow the cars to be entered in the over-2000 cc class, particularly in Group 4 with the ST version.
Motorsport-driven choices in those years were predominant in the organization of the Porsche range. Thus, in 1970, the 911 range included the T version, more spartan – but also lighter, the basis of racing preparations –, the E, which combined a certain construction simplicity with mechanical injection and Hydrolastic suspension, and finally the S with 180 horsepower.
The E already had the S's self-ventilated discs and aluminum brake calipers, resulting in a significant 15 hp difference compared to the S: the E's 165 horsepower delivers plenty of torque and smooth power delivery.
The E's standard equipment is similar to that of the S, with Fuchs wheels, dual-headlights, chromed side skirts, a leather steering wheel, and instrument gauges with oil pressure and temperature, along with oil and fuel levels.
The model we are offering for sale is one of the last produced in MY70, born Bahia Red with black interior, cleared through customs in Italy on June 11, 1970, and sold by the Boldrin dealership in Mestre on July 20. In mid-1972, the car was purchased by a new owner at the Soverini Porsche dealership in Bologna and shortly thereafter passed to its third owner in Arezzo; after several changes of ownership, the car was purchased in 2012 by the current owner from the Porsche Service Center in Pordenone, who had performed some bodywork and mechanical work.
The car is currently in good condition, with approximately 4,000 kilometers traveled over the last 14 years, with no major work to be done other than routine maintenance.
It is a suitable model for those who wish to use the car without any particular worries:
CRS ASI, re-registration possible with a square license plate with the provinces of Venice, Bologna, or Arezzo. It can be inspected by appointment in Bologna. Further details on www.gulfblue.it
