Welcome to Kultgarage – we’re delighted you’re here!
Have you always dreamt of owning a Porsche 356 SC? Then here’s a rare opportunity to make that dream a reality.
As Porsche connoisseurs are generally very knowledgeable about their dream car, I’d like to spare you the usual model history and the familiar regurgitation of Wikipedia content. Instead, let’s get straight to the information provided to me by the owner:
According to the Porsche certificate of origin, this Porsche 356 SC was first delivered by MAHAG in Munich in September 1964. It is fitted with a 616/16 engine and a 741/2A gearbox. The car was subsequently exported to the USA, specifically to California. This must have taken place between 1964 and 1969 at the latest, as black number plates, known as ‘Black Plates’, were issued in California during this period.
According to a copy of a US title from 1992 in my possession, the vehicle must have been under the Californian sun until at least 1992. The Porsche then returned to Germany and was restored here. Based on the figures and dates in the documents, as well as the photographs of the restoration in my possession, this must have taken place between 1992 and 1994.
The car was re-registered in Germany in 1994 (based on the original vehicle registration document) and received historic vehicle status (H-Kennzeichen) in 1997. It has been with its current (second) owner in Germany since 2005, having been meticulously maintained and kept exclusively in a garage. Various invoices from recent years document this careful upkeep. Of particular note is an engine overhaul performed in 2007 by Classic Power (Wolfgang Reile)—a company well-known in the Porsche community—during which the engine was comprehensively rebuilt and fitted with new NOS carburetors (invoice available). In preparation for the sale, the vehicle underwent a general inspection and a brake system overhaul. A current valuation report from May 2026 rounds out the offer.
