This is a very special Gullwing. The founder of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Club Germany drove this very car. This example was quite literally there at the birth of the club, which makes this 300 SL Gullwing even more exceptional. It is as if you are not simply buying a car, but a chapter from Mercedes-Benz history itself. And then there is the color: Medium Red with a beige leather interior. That is not just a color, it is a statement. It radiates energy, passion, and something unmistakably alive.

The 300 SL Gullwing is, of course, an icon. A car you do not explain; you simply show it. Those doors alone. They rise like wings, as if the car might take flight at any moment. That design was not a styling gimmick, but pure necessity: the high, deep sills of the lightweight tubular spaceframe made conventional doors impossible. Mercedes-Benz created something the world had never seen before. Revolutionary then, and forever iconic.

Under that beautiful aluminum hood lies the 2,996 cc M198 six-cylinder engine, canted within the chassis to keep the car as low as possible. Mechanical direct fuel injection, dry-sump lubrication, an enormous aluminum intake system. In 1955, this was highly innovative engineering. Depending on the configuration, the Gullwing could reach speeds of up to 260 km/h. That made it the fastest production car of its time.

This example comes with a well-known and extensive history, including TÜV/FSP forensic authenticity inspections. Using radiography and material analysis, the authenticity of this 300 SL has been established. And as befits a Gullwing that is meant to be driven, it has also been periodically updated with correct disc brakes. Not to modernize it, but to make it safer, more reliable, and more comfortable.

Originally delivered new in central Brussels, this is therefore a genuine European Gullwing. And the condition? Very good. The paint has a deep luster, the detailing is at a level you only encounter on cars of this caliber, and the beige leather interior is not merely beautiful, it is elegant. The finish is so impressive that you can almost forget this is a car from 1955.

Driving this Gullwing is an experience you will not soon forget. It is remarkable how modern it still feels. You can sense that this was once a racing-derived automobile, built by people who wanted nothing but the very best.
