At Mercedes-Benz, a gap appeared in the range following the end of production of the large luxury coupés (W 111/112 series). However, even at the launch of the new 350 SL (R 107 series), rumours were circulating that a four-seater coupé would follow, and indeed the 350 SLC (C 107) was unveiled in October 1971. It was much sportier than its predecessors. The target market for other manufacturers included the BMW 3.0 CS, the Citroën SM, Maserati and Porsche 928. From August 1974, the coupé was available with a six-cylinder engine featuring twin camshafts. The 15 PS reduction in power compared to the V8 engine was hardly noticeable.
Our Mercedes-Benz 280 SLC Coupé was first registered in Germany on 23 July 1979. It has been with its third owner since 2016. This classic car is in excellent original condition with a mileage of just 92,000 km. Regular servicing, meticulous care and underbody protection are the secrets behind its outstanding condition. Come and see for yourself during a viewing and test drive.
