The BMW 3.0 CSi E9 is widely regarded as one of the most elegant grand touring coupes ever produced by BMW. Combining timeless Paul Bracq styling, advanced engineering and genuine sporting pedigree, the E9 became a defining model for the brand throughout the 1970s and laid the foundation for BMW’s future high-performance GT cars. (BMW E9 Forum)

Introduced as the evolution of the earlier 2800 CS, the 3.0 CSi represented the most refined and desirable road-going version of the E9 range. Equipped with fuel injection and producing 200 horsepower, it offered significantly improved performance while maintaining the comfort and sophistication expected from a luxury German coupe.

Today, the BMW 3.0 CSi is considered one of the most collectible classic BMWs of the era, especially when offered in rare specifications, matching colours and fully restored condition. (BMW Classic)

BMW E9 offered by Giro Classico

The example offered here is an exceptionally late-production 1975 BMW 3.0 CSi E9, completed on December 2nd, 1975 as one of the final 55 E9s ever produced.

Finished in its original Polaris Silver over Marineblau interior combination, this highly desirable example was factory equipped with the rare five-speed manual gearbox, one of the most sought-after options among collectors and enthusiasts today.

The car was delivered new through BMW Austria on December 11th, 1975 and remained there until 2022.

Among the most important highlights of this example:

  • highly original interior details preserved.
  • one of the last 55 E9s produced;
  • original Polaris Silver 060 colour;
  • original Marineblau interior;
  • rare factory five-speed manual transmission;
  • extensive documented restoration;

Extensive body restoration

Over the course of its life the BMW remained with only a handful of owners, with the last long-term owner acquiring the car in 1984 before initiating a comprehensive restoration project in 2015.

The restoration was recently completed to an extremely high standard. (Giro Classico Restoration)

The car underwent:

  • full water blasting;
  • comprehensive metal restoration;
  • replacement of corrosion-prone E9 structural areas;
  • professional repaint in original Polaris Silver 060;
  • restoration of all chrome and brightwork.

Particular attention was paid to preserving the car’s originality wherever possible. The interior remains largely original and retains many late-production E9-specific details that are rarely found intact today.

The wood trim has been completely restored and the entire electrical system thoroughly refurbished.

Fully rebuilt mechanicals

Mechanically, the car has undergone a complete restoration to ensure both reliability and correct factory performance. (Giro Classico Restoration)

The original 3003 cc inline-six engine retains its factory pistons, which remain in exceptional condition. Major engine components have been rebuilt or replaced including:

  • connecting rods;
  • piston rings;
  • timing chain;
  • oil pump;
  • bearings and bushings;
  • seals and gaskets.

The cylinder head has also been fully rebuilt with new valve seats and valves installed throughout.

Every aspect of the mechanical restoration was carried out with the goal of creating a true turn-key E9 suitable for both long-distance touring and high-level collecting.

Restored D-Jetronic injection system and chassis

Special care was dedicated to the Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection system, one of the defining technical features of the 3.0 CSi. (Giro Classico Restoration)

The system now benefits from:

  • new fuel pump and accumulator;
  • recalibrated pressure regulator;
  • six modern injectors;
  • fully restored injection components.

Both front and rear suspension assemblies were comprehensively rebuilt, including:

  • suspension bushings;
  • differential mounts;
  • chassis components;
  • braking system overhaul.

The car is also equipped with a limited-slip differential, greatly enhancing driving dynamics and collector desirability.

Brake cylinders, hoses, seals, master cylinder, clutch hydraulics and the correct late-type brake booster have all been rebuilt to factory specifications.

One of the most collectible BMW coupes of the 1970s

Second only to the legendary 3.0 CSL in exclusivity and collector status, the 3.0 CSi is now firmly recognised as one of BMW’s most important classic GT cars.

This particular example stands out thanks to:

  • ultra-late production status;
  • rare five-speed gearbox;
  • elegant Polaris Silver over Marineblau specification;
  • extensive restoration quality;
  • highly documented history.

The rebuilt Getrag 262 five-speed transmission delivers a wonderfully engaging yet refined driving experience, perfectly suited to modern grand touring.

The original air conditioning system has also been fully restored, including:

  • new rotary compressor;

  • fully functional cold air output.
