Description

This elegant and rare Alvis TD 21 Super Coupé was built in 1963 with one of the last Graber coachworks on a TD 21 chassis. Ordered two days after the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, it has remained in the same family ever since. The car combines timeless design, exquisite craftsmanship, and documented history.

Graber bodies from Switzerland were renowned for precise handwork, harmonious proportions, and elegant lines. Only a few TD 21s received these bespoke bodies, making each example truly unique.

The TD 21 series (1958–1963) was Alvis’ flagship model, featuring modern suspension, a powerful inline-six engine, and outstanding road manners. TD 21s with Graber coachwork are now considered highly collectible, especially the Coupé versions which retain their classic appeal.

Graber – Prestigious Swiss Coachbuilder

Graber was a renowned Swiss coachbuilder, founded in the early 20th century in Wichtrach, near Bern. The company was particularly active from the 1930s to the 1960s and specialized in custom-built bodies for luxury and sports cars. Prestigious clients included Alvis, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, and Mercedes-Benz.

Graber coachworks were known for their precise handcrafting, harmonious proportions, and elegant lines. Each vehicle was a one-of-a-kind creation, made to the customer’s specifications, often combining wood framing, aluminum panels, and high-quality interior finishes. The attention to detail and refined aesthetics established Graber’s reputation in the automotive world.

For the Alvis TD 21, only a few cars received a Graber body, typically exclusive Coupés. These models are now regarded as highly collectible, representing the perfect combination of British engineering and Swiss craftsmanship.

Although the company no longer exists, Graber-bodied vehicles continue to captivate collectors worldwide and regularly appear at classic car auctions, often accompanied by full documentation of their history and provenance.
