Zum Start der Baureihe W113 wollte Mercedes dem neuen Modell das Image eines „echten“ Sportwagen verpassen. Dazu ließen sie 1963 einen 230 SL mit dem Rennfahrer Eugen Böhringer am Steuer an der 5.500 km langen Rallye Spa-Sofia-Lüttich teilnehmen. Von den 119 gestarteten Autos kamen nach rund 90 Stunden lediglich 20 im Ziel an, die Pagode an erster Stelle liegend.

Unser Fahrzeug ist eine aufwändige Rekonstruktion des Originalfahrzeugs. Es wurde über den Zeitraum von mehreren Jahren mit enormem Aufwand so authentisch wie möglich vom renommierten Mercedes-Restaurator „Kienle“ aufgebaut. Eugen Böhringer selbst stand dem Team dabei beratend zur Seite.

Seit Fertigstellung wurde die Pagode bei mehreren Oldtimer-Veranstaltungen eingesetzt und erst wenige tausend km eingefahren.

Sie ist ausgestattet mit dem seltenten und begehrten 5-Gang ZF-Getriebe.

Die historischen Bilder zeigen das Originalauto von 1963 im Rallyeeinsatz. Wahrscheinlich wurde es zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt verschrottet.

With the start of the new W113 series, Mercedes wanted the new model to be recognised as a “true” sportscar. Therefore, they participated with a 230 SL, driven by Eugen Boeringer, in the 1963 Rallye Spa-Sofia-Liege. Of the 119 cars on the grid, only 20 made it to the finish line, the Pagoda in first place.

Our car is an extensive reconstruction of the original car. The renowned Mercedes-Restorer “Kienle” worked several years on this car. The target was to make the car as authentic as possible. Eugen Boerigner himself advised the team in the process.

Since completion, the Pagoda was used for several classic-car events and has done just a few thousand miles.

It is equipped with the rare and desireable 5-Speed ZF-transmission.

The historic pictures show the original car from 1963 at the Rallye. It was presumably scrapped unknown time ago.
