Few cars have made a greater impression on the public than the Jaguar E-Type. It is difficult to imagine the impact the Jaguar E-type made when revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961. It launched a motoring legend. The Jaguar E-Type is a British sports car that was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the model as an icon of the motoring world.
The E-Type was based on Jaguar’s D-Type racing car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three consecutive years beginning 1955, and employed what was, for the early 1960s, a novel racing design principle, with a front subframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork bolted directly to the body tub. No ladder frame chassis, as was common at the time, was needed and as such the first cars weighed only 1315kg.
The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a rear-wheel drive grand tourer in two-seater coupé form (Fixed Head Coupé) and as a two-seater convertible 'roadster' (Open Two Seater). A '2+2' four-seater version of the coupé, with a lengthened wheelbase, was released several years later.
The 4.2 E-Types were fitted with the new XK engine, enlarged to 4235cc by the increasing the cylinder bores to 92.07mm. The 4.2 still employed three HD.8 SU carburetors, but the bodies were changed on the new model. Starting from the Series I 1/2, visually, the engine was altered with the dropping of the familiar polished aluminium camshaft covers and the substitution of new items with a black finish and silver raised ribs.
While the Series II E-Type was more radically altered than its interim predecessor, the essential construction remained the same and the bodywork differed only in detail. Modifications were confined mainly to further changes at the front of the bonnet and at the car lights. Among others, the bonnet aperture increased in size considerably and the the chrome trim surrounding the open headlamps was revised to suit their altered, more prominent position.
All Series II cars had the interior changes first seen on US Series I 1/2s and reclining seats were fitted. The 4.2 Series II 2+2 version was more radically altered, for the windscreen rake was increased by moving forward the base of the screen to the extremity of the bulkhead top panel.
The Jaguar E-type turned heads, broke records and created a legend all of its own. Even today the E-Type is considered to be one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
This particular Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Litre Series II 2+2 was produced in 1969 and delivered through Holiday Motors at Boulevard Sherman Oaks, California, on 24 November 1969 to Mr. Alan Stezhl. In 1987 the car was exported to Germany for Mr. T. Bartocha and in 1994 the Jaguar was sold to the Netherlands.
More recently, 2004-2009, the car has been ground up restored. Lots of pictures and invoices of the restoration are available. The car has hardly been used since restoration and has been looked after very well. During the restoration a 5-speed gearbox was installed for much improved comfort on the motorway. The engine also features triple SU carburettors. This example is a pleasure to drive and feels tight and the engine feels powerful.
Both the exterior and interior are still in very nice restored condition. The under carriage is restored and very clean. It is clearly visible that a lot of time and money has been spend on this car. Basically you buy a car and get the restoration for free. It is hard to find such a nice Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre Series II. The original service book is available which is remarkable.
The car benefits from European specification triple SU carburetors and a 5-speed gearbox (conversion). Chrome wire wheels and Moto Lita steering wheel.
Dutch registered and APK (like MOT/TUV/CT).
