- 1 of only 1.252 Giulia Sprint Speciale built in total - Finished on the 13th of July 1964 and delivered to its first original owner on the 29th of October 1965 - extensively restored in Austria in 2006-2012 - complete engine overhaul in 2021 at the cost of 14.671 € The Giulia Sprint Speciale, built only from spring 1963 to the end of 1965, was a 2+2 sports car from Alfa Romeo. It was based on the very successful Giulietta and Giulia series and the famous Berlinetta Aerodinamica Technic (BAT) studies by Alfa Romeo and Bertone. The design of the BAT studies was beautifully translated by Bertone’s chief designer Franco Scaglione for the Sprint Speciale into an exciting and aerodynamic body for series production. With a cw value of 0.28, it was more aerodynamic than anything else on the market and was the production car with the best cw value for 20 years. Scaglione also designed the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, among others. The name Giulia Sprint Speciale alluded to the fact that this car was the “grown-up” version of its predecessor Giulietta, which had a 1,300 cc engine. The Giulia had the more powerful “Veloce” version of the 1,600 cc Alfa engine with 83 kW (113hp), which helped the sports car, which weighed only 950kg, to achieve very good performance and a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). Until the end of 1965, only 1,252 examples of the Giulia Sprint Speciale were built by hand. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale shown here was completed on 13 July 1964 and delivered to its first owner Giuseppe Notare in Naples/Italy on 29 October 1965. It is a later example with front disc brakes. The original colour combination was white with blue leather. The car was later exported to the USA and sold to Austria in 2006, where it was subsequently extensively restored. The work is well documented by numerous photos. The car was completely disassembled and repainted. After the restoration, the Austrian collector sold the car in 2013 to a customer of mine from Germany, as he had found a very special Alfa Romeo racing car in the meantime and did not want to keep both cars. In 2013, the car was registered in Germany and regularly moved and extensively maintained. After 5 years with the car, I then sold the car for him in 2018 to an Alfa Romeo collector from Luxembourg. In the last 4 years, the car has been maintained very well and some details have been improved. In particular, the engine was completely overhauled at a specialist garage in Munich, for which a total of €14,671 was invested. The car can be inspected by appointment.
