Vehicle History

First registered on February 4th, 1975, this beautiful car still retains its original black Italian license plate and original registration document, an extremely rare feature today and highly appreciated by collectors who seek historically authentic vehicles with their first registration plates.

Since new, the car has had only a few owners and has always been preserved with the utmost care, remaining in excellent and well-maintained condition.

In 2006, the car received the prestigious ASI “Targa Oro” certification, one of the highest recognitions granted in Italy to historic vehicles, confirming the vehicle’s perfect conformity to its original factory specifications. At the same time, the FIVA Identity Card was also issued, certifying the car’s historical importance and authenticity.

In 2008, the FIA – Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile issued the Historic Technical Passport, classifying the vehicle as GT Class H, making it eligible for participation in international historic racing and rally events.

The vehicle has always undergone the mandatory biennial technical inspections, and the current inspection is valid until December 2026.

Technical Features

The Fiat Abarth 124 Sport Rally is one of the most iconic Italian sports cars of the 1970s. Developed by Abarth’s racing department from the base of the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, it was specifically designed for international rally competition.

The car is powered by a 1,756 cc twin-cam four-cylinder engine, derived from the Lampredi engine family and extensively tuned by Abarth with high-performance cylinder head, optimized intake system, and lightweight components. Road versions produced over 120 horsepower, while racing versions could reach significantly higher outputs.

Key technical features include:

  • Longitudinal front-mounted twin-cam engine
  • Rear-wheel drive layout
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Reinforced sport suspension system
  • High-performance braking system with four-wheel disc brakes
  • Lightweight body components
  • Wider wheel arches and rally-specific chassis setup

Typical Abarth equipment also included:

  • full sports instrumentation
  • sport steering wheel
  • dedicated seats
  • mechanical and suspension components derived from competition experience.

Production and Rarity

Produced in limited numbers between 1972 and 1975, the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally was built to meet the homologation requirements for Group 4 rally competition. Compared with many contemporary sports cars, production numbers were relatively low, making surviving examples highly desirable among collectors worldwide.

The model played a significant role in Abarth’s rally history during the 1970s, achieving numerous successes in European and international competitions.

Today, examples retaining original documents, complete historic certifications and their first registration plates are particularly rare and extremely sought after.
