EXTERIOR
Exceptionally beautiful Citroën AK 400: this example has been completely and extensively restored, including a new chassis and a new interior. The AK 400 (load capacity 400 kg) is the coveted delivery van version of the iconic 2 CV, also known as the “Duck”. This example was built in 19971 at the Citroën factory in Vigo, Spain. The car comes from the collection of an enthusiast and is in very good condition and has been restored. The bodywork is still very original and has been sprayed in the beautiful and chic colour “Albatros” beige/grey. The chrome work is largely original and has been renewed where necessary. The wheels and rubbers are also in good condition. We have rarely seen a more beautiful AK!
INTERIOR
The wonderfully simple interior has also been restored and is in good condition. The seats are upholstered in attractive brown fabric. The interior is also equipped with heating and a switch for the windscreen wipers and hazard lights. The side windows are hinged.
TECHNICAL
Since the original 1971 AK 400 has a 22 hp engine, this model is equipped with a more powerful Ami engine with approx. 29 hp. The car drives, brakes and shifts well. The car has high-quality silicone-based brake fluid. The new chassis is galvanised and therefore offers excellent protection against rust thanks to the hot-dip galvanising process. The complete immersion process during galvanising ensures that inaccessible areas are covered, making the chassis completely maintenance-free without the need for additional treatments such as Tectyl or paint. We have therefore found no rust on this car.
GENERAL
The Citroën 2CV. Best known as the “Duck” or “Ugly Duckling”. This iconic French model was created in 1935 with French farmers as its target group. It therefore had to be affordable and reliable. It also had to be able to transport goods comfortably and safely over unpaved roads, such as potatoes, eggs and wine. One requirement was that eggs in a basket would not break when the car drove over a ploughed field, and this car performed well in this respect. The original plan was to present the “Deux Chevaux” at the Paris Motor Show in 1939, but due to the war, this did not happen until 1948. Production ran for an exceptionally long time: from 1949 to 1990. Despite its great success and high production figures, a good, rust-free example is becoming increasingly rare these days. The delivery van version (Fourgonnette) is known as the “besteleend” (delivery duck) and was produced from 1951, with the AK 400 being produced from 1970. The delivery van was also used by the Dutch roadside assistance service at the time! Nowadays, they are mainly sought after for marketing or camper van purposes.
