Description

ALFA ROMEO 2000 GT VELOCE “BERTONE” 1971

  1. Produced on July 7, 1971, chassis AR 2421152 in Biancospino white (013) with black plasticized fabric interior (known as Texalfa), as certified by the Alfa Romeo Documentation Center, it was sold by the historic Cinelli & De Anna Dealership in Pordenone to a young thirty-seven-year-old architect from San Stino di Livenza. It subsequently “emigrated” to the Province of Frosinone, and finally to Latina. Over 53 years it has had several changes of ownership, including one following a death and four to dealers or pseudo-dealers. Fortunately, the car underwent conservative restoration work that has kept it in the condition seen today, with preserved interior, tidy engine compartment, sound paintwork, highly efficient mechanicals, and all instruments functioning. The **Alfa Romeo 2000 GT VELOCE **is the last and prestigious top of the range of the Giulia series coupe version, born with the 1600 Sprint GT in 1964 through the work of a very young Giorgetto Giugiaro who was at the time working for Bertone. The sporting experience of the 1750 GTAm born in 1966 led over the years to the development of the engine from 1779 to  1962 cm³ . The new engine, without racing forced induction, intended for road production was designated by the code AR 00512. For enthusiasts, the engine number is 09174. The 2000 GT Veloce also featured stylistic updates: new front grille with chrome bars and raised Alfa Romeo crest and integrated lamps, enlarged rear lights, secondary instruments grouped in "cloverleaf" style between the speedometer and rev counter  behind the cup-shaped Hellebore steering wheel; new front seats still with headrests. Among the optional items were the "Millerighe" alloy wheels"  The 2000 GT Veloce is the first Alfa Romeo to display, on the rear pillars, the sporting badge  depicting the  serpent (enameled green).  The increase in performance  brought the claimed top speed to over 195 km/h. The U.S. monthly magazine "Hot Rod" in October 1980 defined the Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce as "*the only european car able to be called muscle car", *that is, "the only European car that could be  defined as a muscle car".
