Buick Park Avenue Classic Cars for Sale
Manufactured as a full-size premium car, the Buick Park Avenue was a four-door luxury sedan that was the replacement vehicle for the successful Buick Electra. It was produced between 1991 and 2005 in the US, but manufacturing was continued in the Chinese developing market for luxury cars, until 2012. The car gets its name from a wealthy district in New York. This was a front-engined, front wheel drive vehicle that had a four-speed automatic transmission.
The history of the Buick Park Avenue
The Buick Park Avenue was built using the GM 'C' platform and resembled the shape of the British Jaguar saloon. It also took a lot of styling influences from this iconic British vehicle. The first generation Buick Park Avenue had a V6 3.8 L engine and an extremely chic interior that was dripping with opulence and aimed at the comfort car sector. The main competitors here included Mercedes and BMW. During the period of production, the Buick Park Avenue had several interior and exterior cosmetic changes and updates on the powertrain. New features that were added during the production run included automatic ride control, side airbags, automatic traction control and 'programmable magnetic variable' steering.
The Buick Park Avenue was marketed in Europe from 1991 to 1996 and was the last GM vehicle that was officially sold in this region.
The second generation Buick Park Avenue was released into the showrooms in 1997. The final year of this vehicle was 2005 and cars were built with a revised grille and ventiports. The Buick Park Avenue was replaced by the Buick Lucerne though production continued in China until 2012.
Special editions of the Buick Park Avenue
The Buick Park Avenue Essence was designed as a concept car to showcase the company's advanced styling and technology. This car was a very successful display vehicle in auto shows all over the world.
The last 3000 Buick Park Avenues that were sold carried the badging of special edition models. This featured a silhouette of the New York City skyline. 300 of these cars had a unique black-on-platinum two-tone finish. Final production ended in June 2005.
