This original and special Twin Cam was built by Ford’s Boreham Motorsport factory as per the first owners wishes to Works Stage Rally specification whilst remaining compliant with Night Stage regulations. The car retains the many original Ford period competition parts featured in the original specification. The first owner enjoyed LPE 2K for some ten years before selling it to the second owner.
The car remained in storage, original and unused for many years until 2011 when the car was sent to RS expert and Escort MK1 Owners Club Registrar, Kerry Sealey, for a full inspection and restoration. It was found to be in largely great order, the front wings were the only panels replaced using original Ford items. A bare metal repaint was completed and the car reassembled with original refurbished or new old stock parts as appropriate. The suspension was fully rebuilt with Bilstein shocks, turreted at the rear. The braking system was replaced and the rear axle rebuilt with a new 4:1 differential. The gearbox is a brand new Quaife supplied 2000E box with long first and straight cut gears.
The engine is a ‘Works’ Siamese 1,800cc block Twin Cam built by the renowned Terry Dolphin converted time ‘big wing’ wet sump with a steel crankshaft, steel con-rods, forged pistons, lightweight flywheel, competition paddle clutch, steel cam followers, valves spring caps, cam sprockets and Weber 45DCOE carbs.
Inside the original works front seats were fully rebuilt with original material, the rest of the interior is original and immaculate vinyl and consequently it has a lovely patina. There is a single period roll hoop, original metal Avanti map light and the original Boreham built split dash with super original Halda clocks.
Finished in Sebring red with black interior this is a beautifully prepared Twin Cam with an ultimate specification ready to be enjoyed.
