This truly outstanding, show standard Rover P5 Coupe has covered just 34650 miles from new and comes with an outstanding history from new that includes the original bill of sale, early Rover Company Limited paperwork, original service book and MOT certificates dating back to 1967. Philip Rickairs Limited in Knightsbridge supplied the car new on the 4th April 1964 finished in duo tone of Juniper Green/Stone with Green upholstery to makers current specification. The car was registered new in London, ALL 444B and including ‘delivery charge ex Works to London’, wing mirrors, mats, number plates, antifreeze, 8 gallons of fuel and road find license, a total price of £1964.10.9 was charged to the cars first owner in E2, London.
The supplying dealership Philip Rickshaw Ltd stamped the service book for its pre-delivery inspection and The Rover Company Ltd, London Service Depot in Fulham looked after the car right throughout its early years. From 1964 to 1971 they serviced the Rover and stamped the book at 6071, 13217, 14936, 18389 and 19919 miles in March 1971. Interestingly, in 1965 when little over one year old with around 10,000 miles recorded, the Rover was in an altercation, and had to go back to Rover's London Depot for repair work. All the original estimates/letters on The Rover Company Ltd letter head have been kept with the car, making for very interesting reading. The total cost of this work was £125.10 and make up part of this very special cars history.
The early MOT certificates run from 1967 to 1981 and from these records we can see the Rover mileage slowed down from 1973 when at 25364 miles. Eight years later in 1981, still in London but clearly now in low use had covered 28752 miles, just 3500 miles over this period. The Rover then spent a period of 22 years off the road and on the passing of its first owner of 40 years, the Rover was sold to its second owner, and then carefully re-commissioned and back on the road in 2004 with the mileage recorded at 29189. Since 2004, steady, typical classic car mileage has been covered, the Rover has attended shows, rallies and has arrived with us with a genuine warranted mileage of 34650 miles.
There is no doubt this is the very best Rover P5 we have had in 30 years of the business. It's truly exceptional in every respect and without a doubt a true collector's piece. The bodywork is sensational with superb panel gaps, no corrosion issues and the underside is outstanding. The paintwork is of a very high standard with a gleaming, top quality finish and in 2017 the Rover was treated to some re-chroming. The engine bay is beautifully presented, the boot compartment exceptional and this car cannot disappoint on close inspection. The original leather has been beautifully retained, the interior is outstanding and largely original except for new carpets, furflexes and various detailed improvements to keep the interior in beautiful order. On the road ALL 444B is equally as impressive with a superb, strong 34650 miles from new, quiet engine, superb automatic gearbox and having had excellent upkeep and maintenance since its re-introduction to the road in 2004, the car requires no major work. This is a show piece, a wonderful low mileage car that comes with exceptional history, its original tools (including touch up pens!) and is without doubt the very best we have seen.
