The Launch of the Bugatti Type 28
The Bugatti Type 28 has a rich history, and is one of the most prestigious cars of its time. The Paris Motor Show was the first event to showcase it back in 1921. It was a great sensation due to its special design features which comprised an inline-8 engine, 8 cylinders, and top speeds of around 81.0 miles per hour which is equivalent to 130.4 kilometers.
The Development of Bugatti Type 28
From 1913 onwards, the innovative engineers at Bugatti came up with eight-cylinder engines. These were highly successful, as after a period of experimentation, they were used for aeroplanes and cars including the Bugatti Type 28. The engine of the Bugatti Type 28 comprised 2 four-cylinder blocks, and these shared the space in the crankcase. This construction was utilized until the manufacture of the Type 57 and Type 50 Bugattis.
Bugatti Type 28 Was Not Put into Use
The history of the Bugatti Type 28 is unusual as unfortunately,this wonderful car was abandoned after the prototype phase. The Bugatti Type 28 never made it beyond the prototype phase, yet it was however, extremely valuable to designers and engineers as it boasted a large number of unique design features which were used in later Bugatti models such as the Bugatti Type 30.
The Unique Features of the Bugatti Type 28
The Bugatti Type 28 had abundant power, all four corners were given brakes by the engineers for the purpose of controlling it in the best way possible. The Bugatti Type 28 represents one of the first times in which all the wheels of a Bugatti car had breaks added in this way, so again, it proved to be a very useful prototype. The Bugatti engineers stood out from the other car manufacturers with the brake system and many others. They aslo adopted far more elegant solutions. For example, the Bugatti Type 28 boasted a steering wheel with two-spokes and a length mechanism which was adjustable. There were also carburator and throttle adjustments which could only be operated via by controls behind the wheel. The Bugatti Type 28 engine blocks were scraped by hand so that their surfaces were very flat and the gaskets did not need sealing. A large number of the surfaces of the engine compartment which were exposed boasted engine turn finishes, and the safety wires were put along virtually all the fasteners in an attractive complex pattern.
