Description
It is not unusual for us to offer cars for sale which we have sold before. After more than three decades in business, some cars have passed through our hands several times. Here we offer a car which we last sold in 2007.If a car could tell its story, this one would indeed have a tale to tell. It was first registered on August 12th 1949 to a Mr Sydney Winter in the newly Independent Dominion of Ceylon. It's next owner was The United Motor Finance Company based in the capital city of Columbo who funded it for a company in the mountainous tea plantation area of Kandy. By 1955 it was back in Colombo in the ownership of Cinemas Ltd a company still listed at the same address in what is now Sri Lanka. There are several other entries in the original Singhalese registration book until March 1981.
This interesting MG was then reimported and UK registered in April 1984. At some point the valuable registration 3598 MG was put on the car. When we sold it in 2007 this was clearly an older restoration and had a recorded mileage of 10,384 which of course could not be warranted. Over the past 15 years it has completed around 7000 miles more and the engine was rebuilt 2500 miles ago. We have the receipts for that work and lots of other service history including the replacement of the clutch, stainless steel exhaust system and many other parts. In the history file is a commemorative plaque for being part of a team that won the MG Car Club's Y register car of the year Doubtfire award for the round Britain Relay in 2017.
YTs are a rare derivative of this model and this example which drives very well has quite old and in places shabby paintwork. The interior is in fair condition, but the car has full weather equipment and could be used straight away or be the subject of a light restoration. When we sold the MG in 2007 the price was £12,995. It sold immediately at that price and has benefited from considerable mechanical improvement since then. We now seek sensible offers to sell either ‘as is' or with some further work carried out by our sister company Malton Coachworks. A unique opportunity.
