History
The Cadillac 62 Series was a series of automobiles intended to replace the 65 Series in 1940. It was produced until 1964 when it was replaced by the Cadillac Calais. The sixth generation of Cadillac 62 Series lasted 2 years from 1959 to 1960.
The 62 Series of 1960 had a smoother and more sober style. General modifications included a full-width grille, the elimination of sharp front bumper guards, greater restraint in the application of chrome trim, lower rear spoilers with oval-shaped pods and front fender-mounted direction indicator lights. The 62 Series models were distinguished by plain fender skirts, three-quarter slim side spears and Cadillac emblems and lettering on short horizontal front wing bars mounted just behind the headlights. Four- and six-window hardtop sedans were once again offered. The former had a wrap-around one-piece backlight and flat roof, while the latter had a sloping rear window and roofline. Standard equipment included power brakes, power steering, automatic transmission, two reversing lights, two-speed wipers, two-speed wipers, wheel discs, outside mirror, vanity mirror and oil filter. The convertible model had power windows and a two-way power seat. The technical highlights were rear winged drums and X-frame construction. The interiors were made of fawn, blue or grey Cortina rope or turquoise, green, Persian sand or Caspian black fabric with Florentine vinyl bolsters. The convertibles were covered with one- or two-tone Florentine leather combinations or monochromatic Cardiff leather combinations.
One notch below the 1959 Cadillac in bling-bbling, the 1960 Cadillac remains an opera of rolling chrome, a peak that will never be reached again. Only 1,450 units were ever produced.
Description
This magnificent CADILLAC cabriolet comes from a private collection in France and is presented to you in a magnificent state of preservation after being restored in the US and then staying in another private collection in Monaco. The car is in very good condition and has a reasonable mileage, a sign of a careful use. Its painting is magnificent and has no defects. The chromes are exceptional and the car has additional options that could mislead an insider into thinking it is an Eldorado. Indeed, there are chromed side rocker panels and a specific rear apron.
The car is very well equipped and everything works, the interior is in excellent condition and its flamboyant colour matches the exterior colour perfectly. The dashboard is very clean and like a space shuttle or a juke box, you discover an unknown world behind the wheel that you will have to tame.
Its mechanics are very alert and no suspicious noises, the engine is muffled in its melody, doesn't give any jolts, the automatic gearbox is flexible to drive this graceful legend. Very pleasant to drive, this Cadillac is true to its roots: supple, melodious, a real living room on wheels for your greatest pleasure.
The soft top is almost new as you can see on the pictures. Everything is well presented, the lining is perfect, the electric motor works well but is very busy to close it and you will have to help it a little;
Unusual accessory, the car has a sheet metal bonnet cover that acts as a total cover and gives the car a "roadster" look that finishes the line well and matches completely with the rear spoilers.
Our opinion
This is the classic car to have, an American icon and the reference year where all the excesses are there but with class and purity! Here, we love it!
