Die Geschichte der Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray
Bei der Corvette C2 handelt es sich um das Nachfolgemodell der Chevrolet Corvette C1, die von 1953 bis 1962 in verschiedenen Versionen gebaut wurde. Der Name „Sting Ray“ steht im englischen für Stachelrochen. Die Chevrolet Corvette war nun auch als Coupé erhältlich, die Corvette C1 war nur als Cabriolet ausgeliefert worden. Die Corvette C2 war die erste Corvette ohne hintere Starrachse. Die Hinterräder sind mit Einzelradaufhängungen ausgestattet. Gegen Aufpreis konnten sich die Kunden den Wagen mit Klimaanlage und Ledersitzen ausstatten lassen. Ein gesuchtes Sammlerstück ist die 1963er-Version der Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray, die mit geteilter Heckscheibe ausgeliefert wurde und unter dem Namen Sting Ray „Split-Window“ bekannt ist. Der Radstand des Wagens hatte sich im Vergleich zum Vorgänger um zehn Zentimeter verkürzt, die Gesamtlänge allerdings um zehn Zentimeter verlängert.

Die Corvette C2 Stingray ist mit dem V8-Motor des Vorgängermodells ausgestattet. Bis 1965 hatte der Motor einen Hubraum von 5,3 Litern und leistet zwischen 250 und 360 PS. Ab Mitte 1965 ersetzte der neue „Big Block“-Motor den Vorgänger. Dieser leistet stolze 425 PS. Am leistungsstärksten war der ab 1966 erhältliche 7-Liter-Motor mit 450 PS. Dieser Motor beschleunigt den Wagen innerhalb von 4,8 Sekunden von 0 auf 100 km/h, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 276 km/h. Die Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray wurde von September 1962 bis Juli 1967 gefertigt. In diesem Zeitraum entstanden 117.964 Exemplare des Fahrzeugs – davon 45.546 Coupés. Abgelöst wurde die zweite Generation der Corvette schließlich durch die Corvette C3, die von 1967 bis 1982 gefertigt wurde.
