History

British sports car of the post-war period, the MG TD has a style straight out of the 30's because it is only an evolution of the MG T series roadsters. A line of small sports cars that started before the Second World War with the MG TA, in 1936. Singular, the TD could seem a bit old-fashioned at a time when bodywork was already becoming more wraparound, but it does not disappoint today thanks to its inimitable charm.

However, the differences with the pre-war cars are quickly noticed. The line was not really modernized when the MG TD was released, but the differences are noticeable. For example, the fenders are bigger, and come down a bit more on the front. They are much more noticeable without being shocking. The round headlights frame a high grille, signature of the MG T-type, except TF. Painted in red, it really stands out from the rest of the car. A touch of dynamism and cheerfulness in the middle of the black panels.

The bumper and its bumpers add touches of chrome. They have been criticized for being too civilized when the car was released. However, they do not overload the line, nor do they break it. They remain simple and integrate well with this very 30's front end.

The profile is a bit more elaborate. The hood is long and flat. The cabin opens with a very straight drop, perfect for driving with your elbow on the door. The fenders and running boards add a pre-war layer while the rear end is compact, centered around the wheels and their bulging fenders.

The rear of the MG TD is much simpler than the front. The design is very simple but in fact everything is hidden! Behind the cockpit is a canvas that covers the luggage compartment. Then we find the tank which would be well exposed if we did not find, on top, the spare wheel and the luggage rack, themselves protected by another bumper. It's very, very simple.

Description

This MG TD was restored a few years ago. The MG is presented for sale in good condition and shows no signs of corrosion or poor maintenance. Everything is beautiful, refined, nice to look at. The accessories are present and the car is complete with the hood and the 4 sidescreen in the trunk.

Of course, the mechanics including the engine and the gearbox were revised in the slightest detail and the car shows very few miles. The car is very pleasant to drive, the gearbox shifts well and it's a lot of fun to drive this little English car that has a timeless look. It shows very nice original accessories : the steering wheel, the extra Lucas lamps and the mirrors.

The chassis is very sound, the car is well aligned, no corrosion, everything is perfect with a good patina that gives all the charm to this beautiful little English car. At the wheel, the charm is there, we appreciate the vision of the hood with the two dominant headlights, the retro years are there.

The doors close very well, the engine cover is well fixed on the car, everything is healthy.

The shape of the dashboard is very nice with its two waves, necessarily symmetrical to be able to switch from a right-hand drive to a left-hand drive simply. The surround is covered with red imitation. It's very clean and it underlines the meters and the central plate. The latter includes a charge indicator and a thermometer in addition to the buttons for the various controls.

Behind the huge beige bakelite steering wheel, there are two big meters, the speeds in MPH with the mileage meters on one side, the rpm and a clock on the other.

We will finish by talking about the upholstery of our MG TD which are in red imitation, beautiful. Simple, they are separated in the center but share the same backrest!

Our opinion

This MG TD has a very nice color combination! Beautiful English Roadster for the nice days, the car is top!
