Bugatti Type 252 Classic Cars for Sale

One of the most artistic design of automobile's, the Bugatti Type 252, was produced by Ettore Bugatti, between 1957 and 1962. Ettore Bugatti, a car manufacturer, came from an artistic family. For this reason, he was known for his beautifully designed cars.

The Bugatti Type 252, in particular, was a sports car, unfortunately it remained a prototype and never went beyond that. There is now only a single model Bugatti Type 252 which can be found in the Cite’ de l’Automobile museum in Mulhouse, situated in France.

Bugatti Type 252 model - The history

Ettore Bugatti was born in Italy. In 1909. He founded Bugatti Automobile in Germany. At the 15th Paris Motor show in 1919, Ettore was able to obtain a stand at the last minute. Three of his light cars were exhibited: They were “Type 22”, “Type 23” and “Type 13” Each of them had also fitted with the exact same overhead camshaft 4 cylinders and 1368c engine (Which had 4 valves per cylinder) Bugatti produced some glorious cars in their time as they were extremely successful in racing. One car, in particular, the little Bugatti type 10, locked 4 positions in its first race. However, the most successful Bugatti was “Type 35”, who had accumulated more than 2000 wins. In 1929 a Bugatti won the first ever Monaco Grand Prix. In the 1930’s Bugatti also became involved in the racing of aeroplanes, although their creation Bugatti 100P, never flew.

Bugatti’s had a very impressive design. Engine blocks were scraped by hand to ensure that surfaces were flat enough so that gaskets would not be needed for sealing. Exposed surfaces of the engine compartment exhibited “guilloche’” (which means: engine turn) features on them. Almost every fastener had safety wire intricately threaded through them with precision. Bugatti forged their springs, rather than bolting them, to their axels.

Ettore Bugatti died in 1947 and his son Jean Bugatti in 1939, leaving no heir to the Bugatti factory. No more than 8000 cars were made and their last model was launched in the 1950’s. Romano Artioli took ownership in 1987 and established Bugatti Automobile S.p.A. In 1989 the planned revival of the Bugatti was on the table. The first vehicle they produced was the Bugatti EB101GT.

Bugatti Type 252 model - Special editions

The one and only original Bugatti Type 252 was also known unofficially as “Etorette”, with a 1.5l Engine, 8-Miu-valve and a 4-cylinder engine. The Bugatti Type 252 was a two-seat sports convertible in sky-blue, with a Leather interior.

Bugatti has come a long way since the “ Bugatti Type 252” prototype. Bugatti is geared towards luxury vehicles and is now a subsidiary to Volkswagen. Famous Bugatti’s include “Type 53” Grand Prix cars, “Type 41” known as “Royal”, Type 57 “Atlantic” and “Type 55”. Besides the infamous Bugatti Type 252, the most famous Bugatti, EB110 belonged to World Formula One champion race car driver, Michael Schumacher, which was purchased in 1994.
