Porsche Classic Cars for Sale

The German automobile company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche in Stuttgart in 1931. At that time it was the most popular manufacturer in the industry. In 1945 the company became an automotive group that mainly created sports cars.

Porsche, from construction company to automotive group

Company founder Ferdinand Porsche had been interested in electric processes since he was a child and at the age of 16 he provided his family with electric lighting. In 1900 he constructed his first car for the Viennese Lohner, who built carriages. After the foundation of his construction company in Stuttgart, Ferdinand Porsche decided to enter the automobile business in 1945, with influence from his son. Ferdinand was already familiar with the business since he had constructed the Beetle for Volkswagen in 1936. Entering the automobile business, the company’s location changed from Stuttgart to Gmünd in Austria.

Porsche constructed its first sports car in Salzburg (Austria) in 1948, the Porsche 356. It was based on the Beetle by Volkswagen and gained a lot of fame and above all a good reputation. Porsche was bigger than ever before and brought a smile to every sports car driver.

The legendary Porsche models

Alongside the legendary Porsche 356 there are a few other models that should be kept in mind. One is the successor of the Porsche 356, the Porsche 911, which was originally labeled as Porsche 901 but which had to be changed to 911 at Peugeot’s urging. Other notable racing cars include the Porsche 550 Spyder, Porsche 904 and Porsche 917.

The Porsche logo

The Porsche logo was designed by Erwin Kommenda and Ferdinand Porsche themselves, as a logo competition did not deliver suitable results. The logo shows the coat of arms of Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg as well as the Porsche name.
