There is extensive documentation with the car, too much for a photo, so feel free to stop by for an afternoon of reading.
The history of the car:
The car was ordered in the spring of 1977 by Mr. Craven who was resident in the region
Cambridge (UK) and had a good position at Cambridge University. Mr. At the time, Craven had successfully completed a project for space travel and rewarded himself with the purchase of a new Rolls-Royce.
Like every first owner of a Rolls-Royce, personal preferences for the appearance of
makes the car known, did Mr. Craven that too at the time.
Some specific requirements that Mr. Craven stated at the production were:
- Antenna in the center of the roof, as on the predecessor and Rover models.
- Autoreverse cassette player in the center console
- Green accents in the interior and top role of the dashboard
- Beige Pullmann interior with green trim
- Footrests and lambswool rugs
- Picnic tables in front seat backrests and headrests
- Foot switch for the high beam function and 2nd foot switch for a Fiamm horn
- Alarm on the Flying-Lady
- Everflex roof covering
- Fog lights under the front bumper, in front of the airdam
- Fire extinguisher in trunk
On March 1, 1978, the car was delivered to Mr. Craven, who owns the car just for special
occasions until his death in the mid-1980s. Then his son took
left the car and had a telephone installed. The car was also owned exclusively by his son
used for the exclusive rides. mr. Craven jr. did not enjoy the car for long.
He died not too long after his father. His mother wanted the car to stay in the family, but
did not have a driver's license. The special Silver Shadow II of which only three were built in this livery was the pride of her late husband and late son. She made every effort to keep the car in good condition and to use it for what it was purchased for. The widow gave her gardener the task of maintaining the car and requested that he occasionally chauffeur her. The gardener fulfilled this task with verve and had the car maintained and driven until the death of mrs. Craven at the beginning of the 21st century. Around 2005 the widow died and the Silver Shadow II was sold by the now old gardener to a
known enthusiast to him, also from the Cambridge region. The buyer was Mr. T Winter one
enthusiast who owns a Silver Shadow that has been fully restored. mr. Winter maintained and drove the car until the end of 2011. Over the years, the original interior has been digested and replaced by a leather interior and the green accents have been retained as much as possible
stayed. When the restoration of Mr. Winter was ready, he sold the
SRH33463 to the current Dutch owner with a mileage of approx. 32,000Mls
A nice detail is to tell you how the car arrived in the Netherlands on March 15, 2012, after the current
owner had viewed and assessed the car in England. At the Autotron in Rosmalen
agreed, where a technically expert member of the RR&B association in NL would pick up the car
judge. While waiting in the parking lot, the car came into view at some distance, moving
behind a car with a trailer. The technician said: "That's a good car." According to the man, that turned out to be the case
from the fact that the car came from England under its own power. Moments later, the tech spoke:
"That's a very good car." According to the tech, this was because the man in the car with
trailer in front let a woman drive the Silver Shadow II. After that, the car was thoroughly
studied and several tests were performed by the technician, which are then
gave approval that this car could be bought with peace of mind.
The previous owner has officially owned the car since March 16, 2012 and has driven approx. 8,000 Mls. The technical maintenance was always provided by Leo Stoffels and the bodywork was restored in phases during the winter months by Henk Scholten Volvo Damage Recovery in Arnhem.
Over the years, the following maintenance and restoration has been done since 2012;
- Front sills L+R restored with drainage
- Rear wheel runs L+R renewed
- Complete roof including window frames V+A restored
- Parafan-fender transitions restored and re-tinned Idem rear
- Window rubbers V+A and trunk rubber renewed

- Hydraulic repair including new fluid
- Spark plug wires/ignition renewed
- Carburetor overhauled
- Fuel pump overhauled
- New starter motor
- New battery
- New rear springs
- Automatic and engine maintenance
Most of the original details have been preserved over the years and are still present in the car.
The history, insofar as documented, is present in the car, including a report for the purpose of checking the
extremely low mileage before the car came to NL.
On the windshield is a recognition of the presence at Prince Philip's 90th birthday at Windsor Castle in 2011. There is a photo of the car standing and being greeted by the Prince.
Publicity:
- When the car was just in NL, the car magazine Carros made an extensive report.
- For RTV-Utrecht, the car drove foreign tourists around for a promotion
- Cinecars and Autovisie/Telegraaf have made and published videos of the car
- Within the RR&B association it is a well-known car and repeatedly described in it
club booklet and on the website:
https://www.rrsilvershadow.com/EGall/ERRSSII1978SRH33463.htm
The car comes with a FEHAC valuation report from 2020 (33,000 euros) and valid until 2021. That was for the 60,000 euros spent.
Photos are available of the restorations, various events and of the purchase in 2012.
