According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate that accompanies this 1966 (D Reg) Jaguar S Type 3.4 Manual/Overdrive it was originally supplied as a Right-Hand drive car by Henlys of London in July 1966; finished in Silver Grey with Red interior the same colour scheme that it sports today. From the papers that we have we understand that in January 1994 the car was exported to New Zealand where it remained until last year. The odometer has 47,000 miles recorded which could well be correct judging by its condition although we are unable to warrant this given the car’s age. This Jaguar is in great mechanical and structural shape, it would appear to be super original and never been restored and it is as solid as a rock with great panel gaps. The next steps for this car are very much down to the next owner. In our opinion there are two options. Firstly, because it drives like a dream and there are no mechanical works needed, (a new exhaust and brakes have recently been fitted) the car could be used as is and the very original or perhaps ‘Rat Look’ developed. What is the Rat look then? Well, when people describe ‘Rat Look’ they often have their own concept of what it is to be ‘Rat’. This isn’t a bad thing by any means; the scene is that versatile. In the case of this car it is a vehicle that has naturally evolved into a true ‘Old School Rat’ over time and has been kept on the road no matter what it takes! Then fill it with your typical ‘Old School’ accessories, picnic basket and rug, National Trust stickers and so on… You cannot get any more of a stealth effect; until or unless you apply the right foot and give other cars and passers by a wake-up call. Alternatively, make this car as good as it possibly can be. It is a cracking base from which to create a best of breed S-Type without all the costly Tin Worm removal that would typically be a killer on a project like this. What’s more you will know exactly what you have when the work is done. The best ingredients are already here: a super straight car, great mechanicals, original colours, right hand drive and believed matching numbers, (although we do have to verify this). So, it is all in the eyes of the beholder; “Old School Rat” or Concours potential classic Jaguar. We personally would leave the car exactly as it is however, whatever is decided, we are happy to advise and help you to maximise your ownership pleasure. A respray would add £5500 plus VAT to the price and we would be happy to accommodate.
