Description

The BMW 507 is a grand touring convertible produced by the German automobile manufacturer BMW from 1956 to 1959. Initially designed for mass export to the United States, it faced high production costs, leading to a limited production run of only 252 cars and significant financial losses for BMW. Among these, only thirty-four Series I 507s were produced in 1956 and early 1957. In recent years, the BMW 507 has become one of the most coveted collector's items in the automotive world.

This particular Series I BMW 507, with chassis number 70012, was built on February 19, 1957, and shipped to the Hoffman Motor Car Company in New York. It was re-imported to Germany from Arizona in 2011 and underwent a comprehensive restoration from 2011 to 2014. The restoration focused on enhancing performance while preserving the car's originality and authenticity.

Significant restoration highlights include:

  • The original engine, number 40020, was completely overhauled, and a new factory-boxed 11-bolt Series II engine was installed for improved drivability. The original engine is still available and can be refitted.
  • The original red interior was replaced with blue leather featuring white piping, though the original red interior is still available.
  • A new blue mohair hood was fitted.
  • An original factory hardtop, still in its original box, was professionally installed.
  • Rudge alloy wheels were added during the restoration in 2011.
  • The car was converted to front disc brakes, with the original drum brakes still available.

Beautifully restored, this BMW 507 has been part of an exceptional car collection since 2011, maintained by Finest Sports & Historic Cars in Lingen, northern Germany. Regularly driven and permanently registered, it receives top-tier maintenance, ensuring its pristine condition and optimal performance.
