Descripción

1958 Bentley S1 LWB Saloon
Chassis number: ALB21
Registartion Number: 677UYM
Chassis records record that this car was purchased at age 58 by one William Henry Whitbread of brewing fame & supplied to his Godaliming home by Retailer Halls of Finchley. By 1971 it had been sold on to one D. Wheeler by Jack Barclay. When new the car carried very apporpriately the registration ALE3. This is one of just 23 cars manufactured to Park Wards design 858 of which just 14 were right hand drive. The car was valued in 2017 by noted RR expert Alan Fogg at £55,000 pounds. It shows an inciated 91,000 miles.
The car is finihed in traditional tudor over shell grey with the paint being of quite recent origin. To the interior is original beige leather with some light creasing & patina to the front but clearly little used in the rear. It is all in very useable condition. The car has beutiful burr walnut thoughout with particularly fine cabinetry to the rear extending to twin occasional fold out picnic tables making the rear a cosseting & opulent place to be. Al electric glaas division affords the rear passengers complete privacy when required.
Under the bonnet the car is tidy & has power steering fitted making it easy to manoeuver in tight spaces. The six cylinder engine is a paragon of smoothness allied to an automatic gear box that provides smooth changes. It runs & drives extremely well & has a slightly unseemply turn of speed if pushed hard.
The car comes to us with a set of chassis records attesting to the Whitbread ownership. It also comes with an assortment of recent service bills covering also work to the brakes & totalling many thousands of pounds. The car features in Davide Bassioli's book: evey cloud has a silver lining. The original hand book comes with the car.
Overall a very nice & useable car made more valuable by its rareity. It presents well with light patination to the interior & has a genuine "go anywhere" feel to it. This is a very solid car that has spent the majority of its life gagaged which has kept it in such fine order. There are needless to say acres of room both front & rear making it a very spacious & comfortable conveyance.
