Autobianchi Y Classic Cars for Sale

The Autobianchi Y 10 was a 3-door hatchback city car that was in production between 1985 and 1995. Total production numbers were approximately 1 million units.

Introducing the Autobianchi Y 10

The first Autobianchi Y 10 was unveiled at the 1985 Geneva International Motor Show. The vehicle had been designed as an economy car that was to replace the Lancia A112. Despite being branded as an economy car, the Autobianchi Y 10 featured some high-end details (such as leather seats and ultrasuede upholstery) that were meant to attract motorists with a higher purchasing power. In Italy, Japan and France, this vehicle was branded Autobianchi Y 10, whereas in all other countries it was sold under the Lancia brand.

Overall, the Autobianchi Y 10 was a successful model, winning the European Car of the Year award only a year after being launched into the market. More than 60,000 units Y10 units were manufactured during 1985 alone.

From a design point of view, the Autobianchi Y 10 was innnovative thanks to its cut-off tail, which was also painted in black to create contrast with the vehicle's body. This design feature, along with a small and wedge-shaped shell and a tapered roof, made the Autobianchi Y 10 particularly aerodynamic.

Autobianchi Y 10 Series & Models

The Autobianchi Y 10 production consisted of 3 series. The initial series was manufactured between 1985 and 1988, and included the Fire, Touring, and Turbo versions. These were fitted with a 4-cylinder engine that could achieve top speeds of 112 miles per hour. In 1986, Lancia maintained the same models and added a new Fire version, the Y10 Fire LX, which came with extras that included electric windows, central locking, openable rear windows, manual sunroof, and air conditioning. A 4WD version was also developed in late 1986. Between 1987 and 1988, three more versions were added: the Y10 Fila, the Martini, and the Missoni.

The second Autobianchi Y10 series consisted of developed between 1989 and 1992 and was characterised by an upgrade in engine power, the inclusion of electric injection power, improved top speed and acceleration stats, and the addition of some aesthetic details, such as changes to the front grille and the wheel trims and a larger trunk. Series 2 Y10 models included the Mia, the Ego, the Marazzi Certa, and the Avenue.

The third series was in production between 1992 and 1995 and featured a smaller set of headlights, a compact grille, and the addition of a two-toned rear section. All Autobianchi Y 10 vehicles came with a 5-speed gearbox. The first models were able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 16 seconds, but performance was subsequently improved to reach the 9.5 second mark.
