PORSCHE 356 C CARRERA 2 QUAD CAM,
1 OF ONLY 6 RHD UK DELIVERED CARS
COMPLETE MATCHING NUMBERS
CHASSIS NUMBER: 127338, ENGINE NUMBER: 97362
The Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 200 GS Coupe, also known as the four or quad cam, is the rarest and most sought-after iteration of the iconic Porsche 356. This incredibly well-presented example is one of just six RHD UK delivered cars making it phenomenally rare and desirable. Still to this day, it remains a complete matching numbers car with the all-important quad cam engine.
The importance of the 356 in Porsche’s illustrious history is often forgotten or overlooked when it really shouldn’t be. The 356 set out the platform that the 911 would adopt and formed the basis which would enable the company to grow and go from strength to strength. The 356 was equally fantastic as both a road car and racing car and helped to cement Porsche’s place in the pantheon of motorsport greats.
Chassis number 127338 was specified from new in the special-order colour of Bali blue by its first owner, privateer Ferrari racing driver, Chris Keaton. He kept the car in the UK but registered on German plates so that he was able to drive the car to and from race circuits all over Europe. He kept the car for fifteen years until it was sold in 1978 to renowned Porsche enthusiast John Hearn. Hearn only kept the car for four years before he moved it on in 1982 to Manfred Knebel. Knebel was a German based four cam engine specialist. Having worked on so many examples of the 356 four cam, it would have been understandable if he hadn’t been overly ecstatic about his purchase. However, this couldn’t have been further from the truth as Manfred kept the car for twenty years during which time it was extensively used. Before selling the car in 2006. He fully rebuilt the engine himself. The car then came back to the UK when purchased by incredibly well renowned car collector Josh Rushden. This was the first time that the car was registered on UK plates despite being a UK delivered car when new. During Mr Rushden’s ownership the car was regularly maintained by classic Porsche specialists, Maxted-Paige & Prill Ltd. In 2007 the car took part in the Tour de Espana-Portugal where it achieved second place overall in the regularity class.
The car then moved into the collection of an incredibly prominent classic car collector and racing driver. The car took pride of place amongst one of the finest classic car and Porsche collections globally. This kind of pedigree only goes to further emphasise how fantastic this car is with its history and in its presentation.
The car is in near concours condition and represents an incredibly rare opportunity for an enthusiast or collector to acquire and incredibly important piece of Porsche’s history and heritage.
