The Mercedes 300 SE Coupe was introduced in February 1962 as the successor to the 300 Adenauer series and was based on the 220 SE Coupe, which had already been introduced in 1961 and was based on the W111 platform, the so-called "Fintail." Technically, it was identical to the sedans and remained in production until December 1967, two years longer than its four-door sister models (but four years shorter than the 111 coupes and convertibles). Unlike the sedans, they lack fashionable tailfins and have a lower roofline, giving them a more elegant and timeless appearance, which earned them classic status much earlier. This timelessness also allowed them to be built virtually unchanged alongside the successors to the 112 series sedans, the S-Class models of the W 108/W 109 series. Nevertheless, only 2,419 coupes (W 112.021) were produced due to the exorbitantly high purchase price. Mercedes equipped the 300 SE Coupe with all the technologies available at the time, including a light-alloy engine with port fuel injection, a 4-speed automatic transmission, air suspension with self-leveling, disc brakes all around with a pneumatic brake booster, a self-locking differential, power steering, rear brake hold-down, and much more. Visually, an even more refined interior was fitted, with chrome trim on the wheel arches and a continuous chrome strip along the side panels. The W 112 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz M 189, a meticulously crafted inline six-cylinder engine with a three-liter displacement. Thanks to its lightweight alloy construction (cylinder head and block), the engine weighs approximately 40 kg less than its cast-iron predecessors used in the 300 SL (Gullwing and Roadster) and the 300 (W 189, "Adenauer Limousine"). This reduction in front axle load resulted in improved handling (less understeer). The car exhibits sporty, agile handling characteristics, in contrast to the nose-heavy later 3.5 models with their heavy cast-iron V8 engines. Today, the Mercedes 300 SE is the avant-garde of the 111/112 series coupes. It is very rare and, for connoisseurs, the pinnacle of these timeless and elegant automobiles. The vehicle we are offering was originally delivered to France. We imported the car in 2015 and began its cosmetic and technical restoration, which has just been completed. The car has a genuine 55,500 km on the odometer and is completely original. The vehicle was fully documented, and the body was stripped of its original paint. This revealed that it was in excellent condition; no repairs had been carried out. The underbody was ice-blasted and waxed, and the body was repainted in the original color, 180 Silver Grey Metallic. All mechanical components were inspected and, where necessary, overhauled by the renowned specialist AI Motors in Stutensee. Emphasis was placed on preserving the car's highly original appearance and not over-restoring it. A "Kühlmeister" air conditioning system was retrofitted. The original leather interior was cleaned and re-dyed, the original carpet was shampooed, and the wood trim was stripped and refinished. Every detail, no matter how small, was meticulously considered, with absolute originality paramounted throughout, right down to the correct clamp in the engine compartment, the original owner's manuals, the complete set of original tools, the authentic battery, the data card, and even the original key pouch. The Mercedes 300 SE offered here is likely the best-preserved example of its kind in the world. This accident-free vehicle, in pristine condition, has been recently inspected and approved for classic car registration (H-plates). The exact specifications are listed below. I will gladly answer any further questions you may have. The vehicle comes with a 12-month warranty.
