The Mercedes-Benz 300 d, the so-called hardtop limousine, was the final model in the 300 series. It was given its own model designation, W 189, as the revised model was effectively regarded as a completely new construction. Compared to the previous series, the luxury saloon had a longer wheelbase, a modernised body and a fuel-injection engine – in short, cutting-edge technology at its finest. The ‘Adenauer’, as it was popularly known, was certainly worth the price of DM 27,000. 3,077 buyers opted for this prestige car, which was already a classic by the time it hit the market.
Our Mercedes-Benz 300 d hardtop limousine came to Germany from Sweden in 1985 and was lovingly restored by the owner of a Mercedes workshop. The current owner had the classic car thoroughly refurbished again by the Mercedes Classic Centre in 2015. The current mileage is approximately 103,000 km. Drive it yourself or be driven? Either way, a journey in the grand “Adenauer” is always an exciting experience.
