When Mercedes-Benz modernised its limousine program in 1959 with the W 111 series, it make the coupés and convertibles of its predecessor, the W 128 (“Pontoon”) look antiquated. But the new coupés weren’t introduced until February 1961 and lovers of the elegant convertibles had to wait until September 1961. The waiting gave the new luxury cars an even more enthusiastic welcome confirming that the designer, Paul Bracq had nailed the new body design! These classics remain very attractive today.
Our Mercedes-Benz 220 SE b Cabriolet, delivered to the USA in 1963, has been registered in Germany since 2007. Since then, this magnificent cabriolet has undergone extensive restoration. It was important to preserve as much of the original character as possible, such as the leather in the interior. The engine has been overhauled. Today, this classic car is ready to provide wonderful driving experiences.
