Archives La Route is proud to offer for sale this 1976 ‘one-off’ Jensen Coupe, known as the "Van Hool" Coupe, named after the Belgian coachbuilder who was a Jensen client.

We owe these info to Richard Calver, author of The Jensen Genome and known for its comprehensive catalogue of Jensen production: "This is the Van Hool car. It was started by JML and completed by JP&S (Jensen Parts & Services) in 1976. The story I was told at the factory in the 1980s is that Van Hool wanted a model without the glass bubble to prevent water leaks. All cars with the bubble had leaks. I do not know the basis for this request for modification, but the work order to convert the car was issued in December 1975. The work was not completed until November 1976, when the invoice was issued. I assume the car was delivered at that time."

This coupe differs from the production Jensen coupes equipped with the vinyl roof made by Panther. With its classic colour combination, luxurious interior and interesting details such as the tool kit hidden in the boot, the Van Hool is the only factory-built car of that era in this form. Two others were later built by private individuals by converting standard Jensens. Sold new in Belgium, it was subsequently sold to a major Italian collector before becoming part of a large French collection. It was restored to running order in 2019 but has not been driven since. Well-preserved, it nevertheless shows some signs of corrosion.

This so-called ‘one-off’ car, sold with an old Belgian registration document, is of great interest to any lover of rare cars, serious Jensen collector or enthusiast willing to enter the car in a concours d’elegance.
