  • An important open V12 Ferrari from one of the marque’s most celebrated periods

Introduced at the Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 275 GTS formed part of Ferrari’s new generation of front-engined V12 grand touring cars and replaced the earlier Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet. Produced between 1964 and 1966, just 200 examples of the GTS were built, making it one of the rarer open Ferraris of the period.

The design was entrusted to Pininfarina, whose elegant spider bodywork gave the model a distinct identity within the 275 range. While the contemporary Ferrari 275 GTB focused more directly on performance, the GTS was conceived as a refined open grand tourer, combining strong V12 performance with comfort and usability for long-distance driving.

Power comes from Ferrari’s well-known Colombo V12, originally developed by Gioacchino Colombo. In the 275 GTS the 3.3-litre engine produces around 260 bhp, delivered through triple Weber carburettors. The engine’s smooth power delivery and distinctive soundtrack make it particularly well suited to open-top driving.

Technically, the 275 series marked an important step forward for Ferrari road cars. It was the first production Ferrari to combine a rear-mounted five-speed transaxle with fully independent suspension on all four wheels, significantly improving balance and high-speed stability compared with earlier front-engined Ferraris.

Chassis 7839 was completed in 1966, during the final year of 275 GTS production. As a left-hand drive European specification car, it represents one of the later examples of the model built before the introduction of the Ferrari 330 GTS, which succeeded the 275 in Ferrari’s open V12 grand touring range.

Today the car is presented in Argento with a Nero leather interior, a classic and understated combination that suits the clean lines of the Pininfarina bodywork particularly well.

With just 200 examples produced, the 275 GTS remains a rare and significant Ferrari from the mid-1960s. Its combination of the Colombo V12 engine, elegant open coachwork and advanced chassis design ensures it occupies an important place within Ferrari’s grand touring lineage. As collectors continue to focus on open V12 Ferraris from this period, the 275 GTS has become an increasingly sought-after model within the marque’s history.
