Description
History File – Our 1976, late production Triumph TR6 model, chassis number: CF 52838 U was originally delivered to Canada and was part of an extensive Triumph collection for many years, where it received a sympathetic restoration before departing and a subsequent import to Germany in 2020. Over the next couple of years, it would receive further, gentle improvements and preparation, including a comprehensive ice-blasting treatment underneath with subsequent rust proofing and painting. The result is superb with the below pictures speaking for themselves. Additional European amendments included changing the bumpers, front and rear, offering a more traditional appearance and a friendlier on the eye impression. The car is currently German registered with Historical status and comes with two sets of keys.
Exterior – The car is finished in the rare factory colour of Java Green, and has been re-painted at some stage during its Canadian duration. It’s an older covering, but still displays a nice even finish and no one can deny its head-turning abilities. Incredibly, the original factory issued soft-top, with its grey-like material (not plastic) reflector strips is still in place, although, it must be mentioned that the rear side windows have been replaced. Not unusual due to careless dropping of the roof and poor rear storage. But the fitting is still nice and tight and the overall condition is really good considering it is over 40 years old and still retains its silver snaps. The rear zipped window is also in perfect working order. But the bonus package has to be the additional factory Hardtop; sadly, not original to the car but is still of a high standard from the ‘The Roadster Factory’ and includes the chrome edging associated with factory issued roofs. Once fitted, it changes the whole dynamic of the car and creates a cracking coupe, which looks, in our opinion, even better than with the soft-top down. Potential new customers are reminded that the complete soft top and frame must be removed to apply******the Hardtop before screw affixing. The Hardtop also comes with an accessory stand for easy storage. Other late model signs are the black air-vent at the top of the bulkhead, and towards the rear, the later chrome tank filler with ‘snap’ shut lock. The boot-rack is nicely affixed to the rear hinges, avoiding additional drill holes. Since arriving in Germany, a new windshield and rubber seals have also been fitted, displaying a nicely restored image.
Interior – The original PVC seat covers have been replaced by quality black leather along with new black carpeting throughout. It’s a tidy cockpit with all the switch gear still displaying clear legible decals; as always, choke being the exception. A modern digital display radio has been discretely fitted to the bottom centre dash area, and looks like its always belonged there and is easily one of the best retro TR fits we’ve seen at Cathedral Classics. Both door cards have been nicely restored and are in-keeping with the overall high restored interior standard. The soft-top frame has also been repainted during the cars Canada duration, and the underside of the soft-top displays a diamond design-effect, matching the exterior aspects and confirmation of a factory issued hood. Other original features are a factory steering wheel. All in all, it’s a nice TR6 interior.
Engine & Gearbox - Heritage Trust have confirmed that engine number CF42994UE is the original engine and matches our above mentioned chassis number. Since arriving in Germany, it has received a full service from a marque specialist, along with a carburetor overhaul and replacement overdrive seals. Under the bonnet offers a tidy, honest environment without being over prepared with the engine, once warm, moving the car along nicely, with good overdrive shift from the last of the line 104 hp (78 kW) more reliable carburetor engines. As mentioned above, the car has received extensive ice-blasting underside treatment with rust-proofing, and then painted accordingly to great effect.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes – Another late production sign of our 1976 Triumph TR6 are the satin silver centre wheel caps which replaced the black ones when the chassis numbers changed to a CF suffix. Further embellished with appropriate chrome trim-rings and new 185/80 80R15 eco Vision tyres. During the German part of the restoration the car received a complete front (disk) and rear (drum) brake overhaul by a marque specialist.
