When the body design for the new sedan ("fin") was finalized, the designer Paul Bracq got to work to draw a five-seater coupe and convertible. The task was to create a design using large-scale production parts of the sedan and even the same wheelbase. Despite this limitation, he managed to create a fantastically beautiful line, certainly one of the most successful bodies of Mercedes after 1945. With considerable delay the top model 300 SE convertible was introduced. It featured the most cutting edge technology: aluminum engine, air spring suspension, limited slip differential. Automatic transmission, electric windows and air conditioning were also available. The car cost DM 34,750 at the time of presentation, at least DM 9,250 more than a 220 SEb convertible. Still at least 3,127 coupes and convertibles were built. This is of course an exclusive number from today's perspective.
Our Mercedes 300 SE Cabriolet has been completely refurbished without regard for the price. It is truly a top model.
