In 1979, my dad purchased this VW T2 van for two main reasons: to transport clothing to stores and to use it as a family car. From my earliest memories, I remember him treating the van as a fifth member of the family—never missing a service, changing the oil and filters twice a year, and addressing everything else it needed. Most importantly, he has never let anyone else drive it. His driving style was all about listening to the engine and treating it as an extension of himself, ensuring it ran smoothly. After all these years, that care is likely why he never needed to replace the engine, and today, the van is considered an antique.
Additionally, it has always been stored in a closed garage to protect it from sun damage to the upholstery and dashboard. As a family car, we used it for vacations, particularly camping during the summer. Personally, I would prefer not to sell the van due to its sentimental value, but with my current job, we no longer need to keep it.
