A Mid-Engined Icon – The 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 Targa
A very modern variant was launched by Volkswagen and Porsche at the end of the 1960s, at the height of the post-war economic boom. Its daring lines are particularly well complemented by the Targa roof.
The 914 offered here is a rather late example from 1974. As such, it benefits not only from an improved gearbox and greater resistance to corrosion, but it was also ordered with the then relatively new 2-litre four-cylinder engine. This unit is around 40 kg lighter than the six-cylinder alternative and still delivers an almost equivalent 100 hp. The interior also features the period “Comfort Package,” including the three supplementary instruments on the centre console.
This 914 has been in the same ownership for 40 years. Throughout this time, it has been meticulously maintained by a marque specialist and has covered only around 50,000 km, making the modest total mileage of just over 74,000 km entirely plausible. The paintwork, interior and the lightweight alloy wheels, which were optional at the time, have never been renewed, making it an exceptionally authentic example. A 2024 valuation confirms the condition of this roadster, last granted veteran certification in 2023, as grade 3. The vehicle was exported from Switzerland to Germany in 2023 due to a change of residence and now has German registration documents.
